3. How we use your information
We use personal information only for the purpose for which it was collected, or a directly related purpose. Specifically:
- Contact form submissions are used solely to respond to your enquiry or provide the information or service you have requested.
- Server log data is used for security monitoring, diagnosing technical issues, and site maintenance. It is not used to identify individual users.
- Submitted content (stories, photographs, corrections) is used to publish community contributions on Corey.gl, with your consent and with appropriate attribution.
We do not use your personal information for direct marketing, profiling, advertising targeting, or any purpose not described in this policy, without your explicit consent.
4. Disclosure of personal information
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties, except in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers — We use third-party services for email hosting and website infrastructure. These providers may process personal information on our behalf under strict confidentiality obligations and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
- Legal obligations — We may disclose personal information where required or authorised by Australian law, a court order, or a government agency.
- With your consent — We may share information in other circumstances with your explicit prior consent.
We do not disclose personal information to parties located outside Australia unless we are satisfied that the recipient is subject to privacy protections at least equivalent to the Australian Privacy Principles.
5. Storage and security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure. These measures include:
- Contact form submissions are received by email and stored securely with access limited to authorised personnel only.
- Server access logs are retained for a limited period for security purposes and then deleted.
- This website is served over HTTPS to protect data in transit.
While we take reasonable precautions, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and encourage you not to submit sensitive personal information through web forms where avoidable.
6. Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as it is necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. Contact form enquiries are retained for a reasonable period to allow for follow-up and are then deleted. Server log data is deleted on a rolling basis after a limited retention period.
Where you have submitted content for publication, your name and contribution may be retained as part of the site's published record unless you request its removal.
7. AI tools and personal information
We do not input personal information submitted through this website — including contact form data or user-submitted content — into external AI tools or systems. Where AI tools are used in our content creation workflow, they are used with general or de-identified information only. See our AI Policy for further details.
8. Access and correction
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Request access to personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading.
- Request deletion of personal information we hold about you, where we are not required by law to retain it.
To make any of these requests, please contact us. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and no later than 30 days. In some circumstances we may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
9. Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information or breached the Australian Privacy Principles, please contact us first so we can attempt to resolve the matter directly. We take privacy complaints seriously and will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
