Corey.gl acknowledges the Dharawal people as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which this website is created, maintained, and published — the Sutherland Shire and Greater Sydney region of New South Wales, Australia.
We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across Australia.
๐ฟ The Dharawal People
The Dharawal-speaking peoples are the Traditional Custodians of the lands stretching from the southern shores of Botany Bay through the Sutherland Shire and into the Illawarra region. Their connection to this Country is deep, enduring, and living — extending across tens of thousands of years of continuous culture, lore, and custodianship.
The waterways, headlands, forests, and skies of the Sutherland Shire are places of profound significance to the Dharawal people. This significance does not diminish with time — it deepens.
๐ Heritage and Storytelling
Much of the work published on Corey.gl concerns the heritage and history of the Sutherland Shire. In documenting that history, we are mindful that it is built upon — and interwoven with — the much longer history of the Dharawal people. Their stories are not a prelude to ours; they are the foundation of this place itself.
We are committed to presenting local history in ways that honour, not erase, Indigenous presence and continuity.
๐๏ธ Moving Forward Together
Acknowledgement is a beginning, not an end. We support the ongoing work of recognition, justice, and truth-telling that is necessary for genuine reconciliation. Please see our Reconciliation Statement for more.
